Resolving Serious Conflict Between Team Members. Management Essay

Essay Instructions:

The members of your project team are in serious conflict. They have been tasked with conducting a quality assessment of your company’s product testing process. The number of product failures being reported by consumers has increased and your team needs to find out how the failures are being passed through test. Their main disagreement is about the approach they should take to assess the process. The fact that Kurt and Janet have never liked each other isn’t helping, and Christine, the person who generally mediates between them, is fed up with their immaturity and is refusing to intervene. Thomas is disengaged as he believes the testing process is just fine; rather, it is the test employees who are at fault and should be fired. Describe the type of conflict involved i.e. task, process, and/or relationship. What factors within the team allowed the conflict to escalate? Conflict resolving is one of the most difficult processes that face team members. It is the role of the team leader to ensure that they come up with ways through which they can solve such a conflict (Shin, Seo, Shapiro & Taylor, 2015). Therefore, this paper will focus on solving the conflict between the team members assigned the evaluation of the product test process. It will focus on the relationship and task types of conflict, the factors leading to its escalation as well as the approach that a leader could use to solve it.
The situation of the team represents a relationship conflict. Such kind of relationship emerges from the emotional interaction between two or more people (Babalola, Stouten, Euwema & Ovadje, 2018). The main cause of the conflict is the relationship between Kurt and Janet. They never seem to get along with each other, and therefore, this makes it difficult to achieve the group's task. The success of a team depends on the ability of the team members to cooperate with one another to meet the team's set goals. If such cooperation is not present, then it would be difficult for some of the members to achieve the objectives without the full support of every team member. In this case, Janet and Kurt cannot effectively work on a common task as a result of their inability to cooperate with one another. The chances are high that they would have different opinions and would never agree with each other opinions. In addition, group members need to understand one another's opinion to complete a task effectively. As well, Christine expresses a relationship conflict since she has become disengaged with issues affecting both Kurt and Jane. She has been playing an important role in mediating between them but has become fed up with their immaturity. Such is an indication of the negative attitude that Christine has developed towards the two parties. Hence, without the mediation, the team would not succeed in evaluating the flaws in the test process. Thomas expresses a task conflict since he believes that the test process is fine. As a result, their team has no task to perform. He believes that the test employees ought to be held responsible for the failure. In the case of task conflict, team members are unable to carry forward with a task since they do not agree with the ideologies of one another (Isa, 2015). Hence, given that Thomas believes in the process of being flawless, he would not be in a position to cooperate with the rest...
