Getting a promotion is almost everyone’s dream. From professional to casual workers climbing up the rank is the will and wish of the majority staff in any organization (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). However, getting a promotion comes with new and completely different level of challenges which are more complicated and difficult to handle. For every step up the ladder of promotion comes greater responsibility and opportunities. There are different ways in which someone can get promoted in an organization setting; professional field promotion and managerial field promotion. Professional field includes increasing the rank up in your area of operation within an organization. Managerial type of promotion is getting up the rank in your job to the decision making, leadership and supervision of the other workers.
Health information management professional workers who work in hospitals, physician’s clinic offices, home health care for the elderly agencies, nursing homes or insurance firms and companies have ranks in their job hierarchy. Different organizations where health information management is viable have their own promotion policy that every health information management professional should be subjected and scrutinized before being given higher rank roles or getting promoted. The promotion policy will outline the threshold and appropriate performance parameters and achievements that will lead the professional in the promotion list.
Since other departments in the health organization are governed by the same promotional policies, the higher managerial positions are occupied by professionals from different fields. Together with others who have been accordingly promoted they effectively and efficiently run the health organization (Krajewski, Ritzman & Malhotra, 2013).
When a professional is promoted in an organization to managerial positions they incorporate their professional field of expertise in the management of the health organization. For instance, if a Health Information management professional is promoted to supervise and manage the others professional of lower rank than them, they are at a better position in the management because they understand how and when a task should be done. Making their work very easier and efficient.
Quality improvement is one of the key roles that a manager should ensure is at the level best in the organization which they manage. Performance improvement entails the determination of the quality and quantity that a certain process is producing and then planning and modifying the process which the outputs are made and making them more efficient and effective and hence increased output. For a health information manager, performance and quality improvement is the backbone of operation that should govern their daily motives and goals (Krajewski, Ritzman & Malhotra, 2013).
A supervisor or a manger should also with the help of the human resource department provide a conducive environment for the workers to grow into the next job level in case of a promotion. This however, should be done in a manner that it does not affect the current productivity and...
