Organizations are constantly shifting to project management because of its benefits not only as part of innovation but also as an organizational strategy. Organizational leaders have recognized the need for project management as a result of external and internal pressures. This paper explores some of the key drivers of project management. Further, the paper provides insights into how the drivers of project management have been affected by the economic conditions that have been presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Changes in Customers’ Demands and Expectations
The customers of today are more interested in products that meet their unique needs and organizations have realized that to do so, they have to incorporate a project management approach to their operations. Customers are also concerned with sustainability and insist on getting sustainable solutions that meet their needs (Ohiomah, Aigbavboa, & Thwala, 2019). Project management provides organizations with the opportunity to develop products and solutions that are specific to customers' needs while still enhancing sustainability.
Global Warming Threat
Over the last several decades, scientists have warned of global warming and its effect on the world. The threat of global warming has been one of the key environmental drivers of project management in organizations. As revealed by Kahachi (2017), the need to reduce negative environmental impacts caused by carbon emissions has facilitated the adoption of project management by many organizations. Effective project management has allowed companies to reduce their carbon imprint while maintaining or increasing their profits. Also, since customers are concerned about global warming, organizations have to focus on establishing projects that assure customers about sustainability and environmental protection.
Resource Management
Resource management entails efficient and effective development and use of raw materials and other resources. Kahachi (2017) indicates that as organizations continue experiencing resources constraint, they are being forced to look for ways of improving their efficiency in the development and use of such resources. Project management has become the most effective way for companies to efficiently and effectively use their products within the existing constraints. Also, the survival of organizations depends on the effectiveness and efficient use of limited resources. The need for resource management has been a key economic driver of project management.
