A conflict is a protracted argument or disagreement between individuals or groups of people (Wallensteen, 2018). People are bound to disagree occasionally, including in organizations where they work. The impact of these disputes depends on how fast the management can resolve them before they worsen. Most importantly, it is advantageous to assess personal strengths and weaknesses and understand how best to resolve conflicts whenever they arise. It is against this backdrop that people realize that every person has a different approach to addressing disputes.
At a personal level, I use collaboration as a conflict resolution approach. According to Xu et al. (2018), collaboration involves achieving a win-win situation by the disagreeing parties through decisive action that demonstrates the willingness and readiness to cooperate. Frequently, disagreements ensue when I am with friends. I try to ensure that each party gains rather than feeling disgruntled. In so doing, the process involves listening to one another and discussing the causes of our disagreement. Upon knowing the conversation's goals, I try to ensure that we understand one another through creative thinking. It is the first step of understanding someone, and it limits the chances of any concessions. This method has attracted admiration and earned respect from my close friends who never see me fight others whenever we disagree.
