The success of an organization is dependent on the individual performance of each employee, hence the need to ensure that the employees’ productivity remains high. Counseling and coaching are some of the strategies used to assess and address employee performance. Counseling focuses on improving employee performance. In cases where an employee is not performing according to the set targets, counseling may be used prior to initiating any corrective or administrative action against the employee. Counseling entails meeting with the employee to clarify the performance expectations as well as determine the barriers that are preventing the employee from achieving them (University of Notre Dame, 2018).
