Option #1: Transformational Leader with Vision
Jeff Bezos is among the successful transformational leaders and the world's richest person. He is a 56 years old American entrepreneur, investor, media proprietor, and industrialist. He is the CEO and founder of Amazon, Blue Origin, and The Washington Post (Grădinaru et al., 2020). His leadership skills and vision have resulted in his business's success, making him the world's richest person.
How he communicates his vision
Jeff Bezos is a compelling storyteller. His excellent communication skills are the main reason why his vision is worth pursuing and well understood by his staff, investors, consumers, and other stakeholders. Business professionals have a lot to learn from Bezos on communicating a vision and becoming successful communicators effectively.
Non-verbal cues, including posture, gesture, and smile, comprise an important percentage of what people communicate successfully (Chai et al., 2017). Jeff Bezos uses his body language to communicate his vision, especially during presentations or speeches. For instance, in 2003, in TED talk series, his posture indicated that he is a good thinker. A message of willingness and hope was evident when he leaned to his left side, showing the importance of the audience's attention and their engagement.
He prefers manageable, diverse, and small team meetings. He uses a "Two Pizza" rule when conducting brainstorming sessions and meetings. He claims that the number of members in a forum should not be more than those who can consume two pizzas. The rationale behind this is that you will effectively deliver the vision because the decisions are made faster(Grădinaru et al., 2020). He also discourages PowerPoint presentation and communicates using memos and letters because they are effective, provide room for explanations, share ideas, and provide sufficient time to digest and articulate the information. However, his vision communication style is assertive because he expresses his vision while considering others' emotions and opinions. He is always full of courage and confidence while communicating because he knows and understands what he wants. His legacy is attributed to his proper communication and transformational leadership, enabling him to deliver his vision and the organization's vision.
What Jeff Bezos does to encourage experimentation
When Jeff Bezos bought The Washington Post, he asked the employees whether they were pushing themselves hard regarding experimentation. He created the concept of a "one-way door" to cultivate the culture of experimentation. Once all employees understood the culture of experimentation, it became part of the organization's regeneration, and it increased audience and customers, leading to increased revenue.
One of the experiments Jeff Bezos invested in was to broadcast the US election in the newspaper, apps, website, and other media that made a lot of sense to others. With this, the employees can create stories through video, similar to those provided by cable news. For instance, during the election days, they could tell the st...
