Military Leadership, Operations, and Management Name Institution Military Leadership, Operations, and Management The United States (US) army is considered to be one of the best around the world. For this reason, many people believe that the US army does not face any challenges that could cause it problems. However, the US army faces various challenges, especially in the area of operations. The military is tasked with the role of ensuring national security while at the same time the military is required to meet a wide range of missions such as deterring terrorism, combating chief convectional conflicts, engage with various allies and partners without raising hostility, as well as securing global unity through homeland security and also the support of the civil authorities. When faced with challenges, they hamper the military’s ability to accomplish these roles in operations. In this regard, it is important to address the challenges the US army currently faces in regards to the threat of terrorism, maintaining land power, weapons of mass destruction, and anti-Access/Area Denial. One major issue that is facing the US army in its operations is the threat of terrorism. In the current society, the problem of terrorism has been rampant. The military is supposed to ensure national security and protection of the US borders that volatile. With the increasing terrorism, such as Islamic extremism targeting the west, the U.S military has to find ways to counter such attacks and protect the country (Feldstein, 2018). For example, if a terrorist attack is conducted in the US soil, there may be a need for retaliation and the US military has to perform this role. The increasing terrorism makes it evident that the military has to always be on the watch to ensure that those posing a threat to the country are kept at bay. For example, today, the US military has been extending its operations in African states as terrorism trends increase in these countries. For example, in 2017, a small contingent of the United States military special operations set in Niger came under attack by the Islamic State (Feldstein, 2018). Since terrorism has been on the increase, the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) was formed in 2007 and has seen the US army extend its operations in Africa especially because of terrorism threats. In this way, the US army faces the challenge of trying to curb terrorist attacks that threaten the security of its citizens back at home. Another issue facing the US army in its operations is maintaining its land power. According to Goure (2014), land power is the main force of the US military that can control terrain and people to keep the enemy at bay. Land power is key to the US military because it engages with people and develops lasting relationships and so it is crucial to have people recruited into the military. The US does not need to deploy large-scale force on a yearly basis, but historically this has been consistent. It is not likely that this pattern will come to an end soon because of the many territorial and terrorist attacks that the military has to protect the country from. For example, in the recent past, the US army has had to deploy in an effort to ensure stability in Iraq and Afghanistan (Goure, 2014). However, the US military has fa...
