Media Bias and Propaganda
Introduction
It is without a doubt that the increased rate of immigration into the United States and other European countries forms an equally contentious social issue among the media outlets around the world. The highly sensitive issue threatens to polarize the Western countries with the politicians and media personalities taking different points of view on the matter, which further influences the opinions of the masses. Consequently, most or rather a majority of the media houses and outlets are lacking in the essential aspect of objectivity when broadcasting news on the sensitive issue. The media outlets, both mainstream and social media platforms, have become agents of propaganda through their biased broadcasting of news on the issue of immigration. Such sensitive social issues often make for excellent articles through which media outlets express biased opinions while also spreading propaganda against opposing views or any opposition to the preferred standpoints. A comprehensive analysis of three articles on the issue of immigrants and immigration in the United States provides an excellent platform for highlighting the key indicators of media bias and propaganda. Political leaders and influencers with ulterior or selfish motives often use such platforms to gain popularity over their ideologies on such issues and gain the necessary support they require for initiating their desired changes in society.
The issue of immigrants and immigration as a whole form one of the contentious issues in the United States as well as most of its Western European counterparts. The issue proves to be a divisive factor in both societies as it raises different views and opinions as to how to deal with the increasing number of immigrants seeking entry into such countries for a chance to enhance their lives. The quest for seeking brighter future in the preferred countries by the immigrants often comes with a lot of challenges ranging from human rights abuses such as enslavement to fatal outcomes such as loss of lives as witnessed in the Mediterranean Sea in the recent past occurrences. The fact that such individuals may risk their lives to gain entry into the developed countries is an indication of both the dire situations they faced in their host countries and the genuine attempt to improve their lives as well as those of their families whom they leave behind.
