Scrum is a project management and product development framework. Scrum uses an empirical process to provide working teams with a means for hypothesis development, goals establishment, testing, piloting, reflecting, and adjusting in real-time (Sliger, 2011). Scrum accommodates practices from complementary frameworks that improve the team’s efficiency, project flow, and product development. The Scrum framework has five main components that target specific goals in a project cycle and successful product development.
The first component is the Scrum Master, who oversees the implementation of the Scrum framework by the rest of the team. Their task includes introducing, training, advising, planning, and establishing practices and values for the larger group (Blankenship et al., 2011). However, the Scrum Master should remain flexible to accommodate the adaptability and evolution of the team through the project cycle. The second component is the Scrum Product Owner, who is responsible for maximizing the usability and marketability of the product to the users or customers (Blankenship et al., 2011; Sliger, 2011). The Scrum Product Owner works closely with the Scrum Team to advise and improve the product’s value. The third component is Sprint which includes all ideas that the Scrum Team comes up with and implements. The fourth component is artifacts, consisting of backlogs, Sprint, logs, and burndown charts (Blankenship et al., 2011; Sliger, 2011). Fifth is Scrum events, including idea reviews, planning, retro, and standup.
