The aim of this assignment is to focus on the problem statement. Clearly identify the problems or questions that will be the focus of the dissertation research, and present a peer-reviewed literature review that clearly supports the proposed topic as novel and significant. Clearly identify the knowledge gap supported by current literature to exemplify the novelty of the proposed study. Use the literature to also describe the significance of the proposed study by underscoring how it will improve and impact the respective field. Discuss expected outcomes and how they are important to rectify conflicting literature or add to current knowledge.
Case Assignment
Formulate a title for the proposed dissertation research. Using the concepts mentioned in the assignment overview, write an Introduction and Problem Statement to the Dissertation Prospectus. Provide a clear rationale for why the study is needed. Clearly articulate the purpose of the study (i.e., study aims). The increasing rates of infant mortality have been observed in every part of the world including the US. Moreover, several studies have been conducted on the issue that gives adequate information regarding the size of children that die at birth in every part of the globe. The gap has not received much attention as most people major their research on particular regions in the nation and some areas of the world. Specifically, the research gap is to determine the contribution of the US to international mortality rates. Further, the proposal will provide enough information on the rate of infant mortality and the whole world. Therefore, the proposal is a tentative work that will be used in the final dissertation, and it majors on the topic of the comparison of the rate of infant mortality in the US and the international rate.
The long-term objective of the project is to reduce the rate of antenatal morbidity in the US despite the reduction in the mortality rates that have been currently observed in the country. Further, the information will help in identifying the possible causes of infant mobility rates in the nation. Also, the knowledge will be important in managing any potential increase in the rates and coming up with possible strategies that might be adapted to minimize the challenge. Similarly, the project will help in identifying the possible ways of reducing the death tolls among children in the nation. The study is supported by the fact that there is inadequate information regarding the exact rate of infant mortality rates in the country and the whole world (MacDorman et al. 2014).
Further, the research is supported by the fact that there are limited studies that determine the contribution of the US to the international antenatal morbidity. Therefore, the research is expected to answer the question that the infant mortality rates in the US are higher than the international rates. My research team and experimental design will be the best for the study. First, the research team is composed of several medical professionals, including epidemiologists who are responsible for surveillance of diseases and death.
Further, the study will entirely involve the use of secondary data because it is cross-sectional research which makes it impossible to conduct an individual study on every health facility. Hence, the research will use health records and information from medical databases, and no lab experiment will be done. Moreover, the study will involve the use of data analysis tools such as STATA and SPSS as the information that will be evaluated is voluminous (West, Welch & Galecki, 2014). Additionally, the research design will involve the use of sample data drawn from the entire population under study. For instance, a sample of health facilities in the US will be used as study elements and the results generalized to the whole nation.
