MGB 301

Homework Assignment #1

Individual Self-Assessment Paper

Please answer these three critical questions in a written essay format:

  • Where do you want to go next (first job, graduate school, etc.)?
  • What are your strengths, and how can you leverage them to get there?
  • What obstacles/personal weaknesses might hold you back, and what can you do to overcome them?

This is meant to be an internally focused assessment in which you honestly and accurately analyze your strengths and weaknesses. Self-Awareness is critical to being an effective manager and respected leader. Be sure to address your weaknesses, and do not just focus on your strengths. Reflect on course concepts that have been covered in MGB 301 so far. Points will be deducted for grammatical, mechanical, and spelling errors, so turn in a document that is polished and professional looking.

The finished assignment should consist of three pages (not including title page) of detail, using “Calibri” font style with an 11-point font size, double-spaced, and with 1” margins.

Be sure to include a title page.

This assignment must be submitted in hard copy and uploaded to SafeAssign by the start of class on Tuesday, February 18th, or credit for the work will not be granted.

The assignment should be about an ISFP student majoring in financial analysis, and this is her last year of undergraduate.

Taking a business-related course has always been my passion, which explains my choice to major in Financial Analysis. I am a stickler to detail and always strive to accomplish my goals, which stems from my introverted and sensitive personality. I am in my last year in campus, and I cannot escape the reality that soon I will be joining a more practical world, one that demands that I honestly reflect on my abilities, strengths and weaknesses. The self-evaluation not only helps one to take stock of their potentials, but it also enables them to assess their weaknesses (Clack, 2017). By knowing my shortcomings, I am more able to make improvements, perhaps through personal and professional development courses.
My next step after I graduate will be to seek a job in a financial institution, preferably a bank. I feel the opportunity will allow me to apply the skills I learned in a practical setting. I cannot wait to create financial reports and forecast business growth for the company that gives me my first job. The course prepared me to work in a busy environment and to be as transparent as possible in matters of finance and money. We were taught to generate records that reflect the financial health of an organization because a company is as good as its financial performance. Armed with these expectations, I am eager to land a job that will help to prove management skills as well.
I have strengths that are critical to achieving my personal and professional goals. I have an introverted personality, which means that I am sensitive to how my actions affect other people. Responsiveness to other people’s feelings helps me to work in a diverse workplace since I will be keen to learn and appreciate colleagues. I am not quick to judge others as I know that people may need some time to get out of their cocoons. The personality type also implies that I am analytical and creative; I can come up with new insights for the company. Introverts are adventurous, and though they may be less fantasy-oriented, they may want to adventure into new territories (Clack, 2017). I know that the banking industry can be challenging, but I am willing to learn the ropes and be a dynamic person who transforms according to the prevailing circumstances. In sum, I believe that these strengths will help me integrate into my first job and be part of the team.
While I tend to be confident and willing to learn, I am shy, less talkative, and quickly get anxious by insensitive remarks. These weaknesses may be a stumbl...
