As a chief operating officer of a hospital, you have been tasked with opening a new ambulatory care center in your city.
Write a 2-3 page paper in which you:
Specify whether you would utilize the professional autonomy, social contract, or free market perspective as the paradigm to design the structure of your new center. Debate at least two (2) advantages and two (2) disadvantages of your chosen perspective. Provide at least two (2) examples of your perspective in action to support your response.
Analyze the key components of three (3) sources of law related to the effects that each source could potentially have on your healthcare organization’s new initiative.
Use at least two (2) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

In order to design an efficient ambulatory care center in the city, I would utilize a free market perspective. A free market is free of government intervention where patients pay for their healthcare services and providers deliver care without any restrictions from third parties (McKalip, 2016). The laws of competition are at play in a free market system, and as such, all players have to provide quality services at fair prices. This perspective has several benefits. According to Russo (2014), a free market approach allows hospitals and health care providers to efficiently allocate their scarce resources for optimization and improved patient satisfaction. As such, an ambulatory center that operates within the themes of a free market would provide services to all patients, especially given that resources will be well-utilized, without straining the medical team or the patients. A free market perspective is also beneficial because it facilitates innovation. Cresswell, Cunningham-Burley, and Sheikh (2016) posit that because of the competitive nature of a free market, hospitals are encouraged to be innovative to gain a competitive advantage over their counterparts. Given the nature of ambulatory care and changes in the healthcare system, innovation is the key to the successful delivery of services. However, this perspective also has its shortcomings. In a free market, there are no rules enacted for the medical practice of healthcare providers and the delivery of care (McKalip, 2016). In the absence of such rules, there is no guarantee that the patients’ best interests will be considered, both regarding cost and quality of care. Further, a free market perspective requires patients to pay for services and care from their own pockets (McKalip, 2016). This puts some people at a disadvantage since not everyone has the financial ability to pay. Cosmetic surgeries are an example of a free market perspective where people pay for services out of their own pockets. Laser eye surgery is also another example. According to Bamashmus, Hubaish, Alawad, and Alakhlee (2015), Laser eye surgery has been effective in facilitating patient satisfaction as it is ranked as the surgery with the highest patients’ satisfaction rate.
