Employee selection methods introduced in Ch. 6 of Fundamentals of Human Development include applications, employment tests, interviews, background investigations, and medical or physical examinations.
Select the method that you feel is most useful, and discuss the reliability and validity of the method you select. Discuss what the strengths and weaknesses of the selected method are.
Content validity is a demonstration that the content of a selection procedure is representative of important aspects of performance on the job. For example, employers demonstrate the content validity of a test by showing that the test constitutes a fair sample of the job’s content. In selecting students for dental school, many schools give applicants chunks of chalk and ask them to carve something that looks like a tooth. If the content you choose for the test is a representative sample of what the person needs to know for the job, then the test is probably content valid. Clumsy dental students need not apply.

I believe that application is the most useful method of employee selection. The recruitment team has an obligation of ensuring that they choose the best-fit candidates. Applications are reliable because they enable the recruitment team to scrutinize all the resumes sent by the various candidates in order to come up with the best fit (Highhouse, Doverspike & Guion, 2015).
Applications, as a job selection method, is valid because the applicants are required to match their qualifications with the requirements of the job.
The main advantage of this method is that the selection team can spend as much time as possible going through the various applications in order to come up with the best. As well, the methods provide a fair platform whereby the willing candidate is given a chance to participate (Dipboye & Dipboye, 2018).
