Servant leadership has mostly been linked to biblical and Christianity principles. In the Bible, the example of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet was one of the main examples. Some people are so much embedded into attributing servant leadership to Christianity to a point they forget its source.
Servant leadership was founded by Robert K. Greenfield in the 1960s and 1970s (Andrey, 2014). It was in his essay, The leader as a servant where he wrote the concept of servant leadership. He had consulted some large corporations on the issues and management. He later used the book of Journey to the East, a book written by Herman Hesse as a source (Andrey, 2014). From the book, Leo, a character served the people on the journey before he later disappeared. Due to this, the abandoning of the journey took place. It was later discovered that Leo was the leader of the order through which the journey had been sponsored.
