Amazon Company is an American multinational technology company that is involved in providing of online retail shopping services. It was founded in 1994 by Jeffrey Preston Bezos an American Industrialist and it was listed number 5 in the Fortune 500 annual listing in 2019. Fortune 500 is a yearly listing by the Fortune magazine of 500 top public companies in the United States. This is done by valuation of the assets, sales, capitalization and earnings. It bases its headquarters at Seattle, Washington. It operates through major three segments, namely, Amazon Web Services segment, North America segment and International segment.
The American Web Services (A.W.S) segment is involved in the global sales of computing, storage, database, and A.W.S service offerings for start-ups, enterprises, academic institutions, and government agencies. Then, the International segment provides retail sales of consumer goods and services through international websites. Finally, the North America segment offers retail sales of consumer goods and services through specifically North America-focused websites. The company has over 760,000 employees.
For the company to be successful, it has innovative technologies that most of them are championed by its Founder and C.E.O, Jeff Bezos. Because of this, I will have a thorough critique and scrutinization of the organization practices, like Recruitment practices, Training practices, Selection of Employees, Employee Compensation practices, and Performance Appraisal or Promotion practices. All these practices collectively may affect the performance of this company either positively or negatively. For Amazon Company’s case seems they have had well-stipulated policies on some matters, and it is the reason today the enjoying much success.
For Recruitment, I am satisfied with how the process takes place in the company. The C.E.O of the company believes in recruiting the right people. Bezos once wrote that he would rather interview 50 people and still hire none of them than risking to hire the wrong person in the company. He adds that it is impossible to produce good results in a competitive environment with such people. This philosophy has created one of the most important hiring processes in the world. Amazon will spend more time for the screening of people seeking jobs in their company (Adler, 2013).
Jeffrey Bezos swears by three critical questions before selecting a single person. The first question is if the hiring managers will admire the person? I think this may not be a useful thing to consider when selecting personnel. Naturally, people even dislike others from their appearance (Zhou et al., 2018) and this may lead to the loss of a good workforce. The other question is, whether the person will raise the level of effectiveness...
