My first task involved conducting a reference check on new workers. I conducted checks on their employment histories, qualifications and educational backgrounds. During the period, I conducted at least two verbal reference checks to be sure that the information I received was correct. Also, I took detailed notes of the information that I received from the referees. As discussed in class, reference check is an important human resource tool that helps in evaluating previous employment histories, qualifications and educational backgrounds of new workers. The process ensures that the workers that are employed will be productive to a company. In case the process is not conducted effectively, it may cost a firm. For instance, cases of theft and corruption may improve which is costly to a company. In addition, conducting reference checks on new employees improved my knowledge of identifying fake references. During the process, a person should carefully plan the questions before asking them to ensure that the most important questions are not left out.
The second task involved working at the file system. The task involves sorting papers into files by categories then placing them into hanging folder. Finally, we labeled the folders and placed them into files that contained the same folders for easy access. The task is tied to the course content in that it helps in understanding the process of keeping a company’s records. The system helps a person to be transparent, organized, efficient, and systematic. In addition, it improves the ease at which information can be accessed in an organization. The filing system makes every activity conducted in a firm to be accounted for as records of responsibility are kept within the system. Moreover, the task improved my learning experience in that through the process I have realized that proper record keeping enables a company to hold its employees accountable as it contains the details of transactions that had been undertaken. Hence, they should be secured and should not be misplaced.
