ASSESSING TRAINING MANAGEMENT OF DAGGER BRIGADE MISSION IN REGARDS TO NCO COMMON CORE COMPETENCY (NCOCC) OPERATIONS
The Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) has the mandate to train soldiers in readiness for a combat or a mission. Training management is divided into four step processes: planning, preparing, executing, and assessing to manage training. Leaders should be competent enough while managing training so as not to fail to address the key issues in training. For a successful execution of training management to a small unit and individual soldiers, leaders need to participate and exercise supervision in all the training levels. The NCOs are obligated to train soldiers, while leaders assess both the soldiers and training throughout the execution phase. For mission Dagger Brigade, the NCOs will be required to ensure that all the soldiers, subordinate leaders, and units reach training grounds on time. The soldiers must be in the right uniforms and in the right state of mind to train. The senior NCOs have to make sure that leaders are well trained. During the training, soldiers' time is not to be wasted, which calls for prerequisite training. Whenever retraining is needed, the NCOs should ensure that there is enough time set aside for such tasks. Soldiers should also be well-led and motivated at all times. The work of the NCOs does not only end with training but also extends to individual soldier mentorships. The two always accompany each other together. The main component of mentorship is for the NCO to set an example that the other soldiers can emulate (The Staff Noncommissioned Officer’s Handbook, 2015).
