Organizational work ethics has a significant effect on its reputation. A business entity that has good work ethics promotes the long-term success of the company. Institutions and organizations need to implement an ethical program to promote increased profitability and a thriving company culture. An organization's ethics impact interactions at all levels in the organization's environment, including suppliers, competitors, employees, and customers. These groups interacting within an organization will influence the way business ethics of the organization are created. Lockheed Martin, an aerospace and defense company, implemented an ethics program that has been on the rise since the excellent corporation of the year 1995(Terris, 2005). In this essay, the analysis of methods used by the corporation to implement a successful and flexible program that was good enough to accommodate the changing need of the institution.
Lockheed Martin has a written code referred to as "setting the standards: the Lockheed Martin code of ethics and business conduct." The importance of the code is to ensure accountability and responsibility by an organization. The code contains the business codes of conduct and ethics, and it is updated every one to two years. The code is essential to the organization because it is the foundation of all ethics and its code of conduct. The ethics officers significant in documenting the organization's code, printed into a pocket-sized handout. The code is essential because it provides the organization's employees with specific ethics and ways of conduct to ensure they achieve its goal, setting the standards (Terris, 2005). The code is translated into different languages for different people who interact with the organization to access the business ethics.
Ethics training programs are essential to an organization to ensure the success of the organization. These training programs create awareness to all the individuals of an organization on practicing ethical behaviors at work. The programs equip the employees with work ethics that give employees the morale to work in unity and efficiently with their colleagues. Being aware of business ethics is essential to individuals because they can maintain a positive image and uphold the organization's culture. The training is also crucial for conserving the organization's culture and gives members the power to deal with any ethical puzzles that could erupt. Organizations should make sure they communicate how people should show ethical behavior in workplaces and ensure the code of conduct is implemented (Alwagfi, Aljawarneh, & Alomari,2020). Having ethics training programs in an organization and ensuring they are updated regularly will promote the growth and establishment of a loved and respected business.
