Emerging Concepts within the Transportation and Logistics Field
Introduction
The field of transportation and logistics has dramatically being transformed with the emerging innovations in technology. These changes have resulted in increased efficiency and affordability of the transport and management systems (TMS) and product movement tracking, thus improving the entire process of transport and logistics. The two main concepts that will be discussed in this paper include self-driven cars and drones and the use of robots.
1 Self-driven Cars and Drones in Product Delivery
The use of drones has become common in the last few years and the delivery of products to customers can take about 30 minutes after ordering. While this concepts is yet to be rolled out on a large scale, Intel has significant numbers of unmanned aerial vehicles/drones and Amazon has already started making prime trials in product delivery using drones (Wingfield, 2016). This concept will reduce driver shortage and significantly reduce the damage due to long-haul driver fatigue (Robinson, 2016).
