DESIGNING AN EMPLOYEE TRAINING PROGRAM:
DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HOTEL AND RESTAURANT BUSINESSES
Program’s Background:
Training plays a distinct role in the attainment of an organizational goal by integrating the organization’s interest and the workforce. Nowadays, training is the most essential factor in the business community because it promotes high efficiency and effectiveness of both employees and the organization. Training enhances the capabilities of employees to have better performance through an increase benchmark in both skills and competencies (Khan., 2011). Training and development is indeed a good sort of investment. Many companies spend training and development in different aspects of the business like skills enhancement for operation sectors, decision-making and planning strategies for marketing and office sectors, and even technology integration to business transactions. However, only few are giving emphasis for training in relation to business continuity management program. In fact, this aspect has said to be one of the most important factor to consider in designing training for employees. Japan for example, is one of the most progressive country in the world due to their rich economic growth but in time of disaster suffered also from economic collapse. The Great East Japan Earthquake was the country’s first massive earthquake during the period of post-war high economic growth that destroyed most of Japan’s supply chain management, high networked infrastructure, and industrial and economic activities leaving a casualty that is said to be the biggest in the world. Thus, the defenses were not susceptible to reduce the impact of the disaster (Suppasri, et al., 2013)
Reflecting this scenario in the Philippine context, we might be bothered to think up to what extent does this kind of disaster could affect our country especially now, that we are expecting for “the big one”. We all know that Philippines is prone to disaster due to its geographical location. A disaster in our country can lead to devastation of great proportion in terms of the number of casualties and business companies are widely affected of this. They encounter problems not only in infrastructure damages, assets depreciation, and impaired employees but most on suspensions of critical operations that would give a huge impact on the business economy in the long run. Examining these situation, we can clearly see that designing a training for business continuity management is of great help and a need to avoid serious risks pertaining to business economy of our country. This is the reason why this paper will talk about a proposal for a training program pertaining business continuity management.
