The leadership challenge is a book written by Kouzes and Posner, which addresses creating conditions that are favorable for success. Leaders have an essential role to play, and their actions determine whether or not the people they lead will succeed. The book also addresses conditions that hinder success.
Leaders can create conditions for failure. Their actions and how they handle the people they are leading could lead to a loss. When a leader continuously monitors every move that their employees make, they get a distorted view of reality (p. 290). Every time the employees know that they are coming, they will put on a façade of how well they behave.
It creates a condition for failure because the employees will hide the truth from them, and they will become more dishonest about what is happening in the places of work. The leaders will not be able to address the issues affecting their business (p. 290). Focusing on problems and having low expectations of the employees is a significant hindrance to success.
Some leaders become dedicated to creating conditions for success. They achieve this by recognizing the efforts made by their employees and awarding them. It creates a working environment where everyone wants to be recognized as the best, and therefore they strive to become successful.
