My topic is Coffee Consumption among College Students. I claim that, on average, males are likely to consume more coffee than females. The population of college students will be appropriate to investigate my claim. Coffee has become popular, especially among college students. The pressure to be constantly productive and succeed in their work and studies makes them turn to these caffeinated drinks to keep them going. College students use coffee for some positive effects, such as increased alertness and brainpower. However, when not used in moderation, there are several downsides of coffee consumption that most students are unaware of, such as sleep deprivation, blood pressure, and increased heart rate (Reid Jessica & David, 2018). In addition, coffee drinking habits differ among males and females. Males consume more of it and prefer it less sweet and stronger.
The first question I will ask in the survey will be: How old are you? This survey question will allow me to know whether the participants fit my target audience since the study requires only adults. The second survey question will be: What is your current gender identity? This question will help in assessing whether there are gender differences in coffee consumption. The last question in the survey will be: How many cups of coffee do you consume per week on average? This question will help in determining the rate of coffee consumption among college students. In addition, the number of cups of coffee per week will assist in determining the different types of coffee consumers among college students.
The variables in my study will be age, gender, and the number of cups of coffee consumed per week. Gender, which is nominal, will be the independent variable. The dependent variable will be the number of cups of coffee consumed per week, which is continuous. Age, which is a continuous variable, will help describe the demographic characteristics of the participants.
I will post my survey link on students’ Facebook groups. This will help me reach more students from different years of study. This study will utilize an online survey since it is faster and more accurate, and it will also minimize physical contact due to Coronavirus Disease.
