Leaders derive their power from their positions and may also base their power from being likeable and knowledgeable (Northouse, 2016). The transformational leadership theory is an effective approach for leaders who do not seek to elevate their self interests above those of others. There is an element of ethics and moral uplifting in this leadership theory.
