The heuristic approach that was most relevant to the conflict, in this case, was that of Kareem's firing. When Michael discovered that Kareem was missing from his workstation on several occasions during the day, he decided to report the matter to Janet, the supervisor. Michael did not bother asking Kareem why he was away from his desk on multiple occasions. Although Janet questioned Kareem on one occasion, she did not make an effort to talk to him about his breaks. When all this information reached Thomas, the manager, he did not closely examine the issue. Doing so would have enabled him to understand what Kareem was doing. However, as one sees from his account, his employees' problems are not his problem. His sole focus is ensuring that his call center is the most productive. This kind of bias is also observable in Janet and Michael. They are all discriminative against Kareem, who has to take prayer breaks every day. To them, such a person should not be working at the call center. Janet even makes a point of noting that there is no time for idle conversations at the call center as they all have to be on the phones throughout the day.
