3-2 Final Project Milestone One: Overview and Conflict Analysis
Part One
The patterns of facts leading to the interpersonal conflict are based on various stakeholders’ views regarding employee performance. The work environment seems to tense since some employees are always afraid that they might lose their job. For instance, Kathy is nervous that she might lose her job regardless of how good her performance is. Janet rarely takes a break from her work, and therefore, she should ensure that her subordinates remain productive. This explains the reason she was keen to observe Kareem’s performance, and when she found out that he was not productive, she talked to Thomas about it. Such led to Kareem’s termination. As well, Michael is a hardworking employee, and he tends to get frustrated when other employees do not work as hard as he does. He feels that Kareem is not productive since he takes a lot of breaks. He then reports him to their supervisor, Janet.
The other fact leading to the interpersonal conflict is the inconsistency in Kareem’s termination. Kareem believed that he was a hardworking employee, and his work was not supposed to be terminated on the grounds of underperformance. From time to time, his supervisor would congratulate him for the good job done. Another factor that escalated the conflict is that no one had a discussion with Kareem regarding his performance. His supervisor, Janet, did not bother finding out why Kareem was away from his desk most of the time. Hence, this created an unfair situation of termination, which escalated the interpersonal conflict.
