Playing Football
Learning and playing football has been the greatest part of my life. It is a passion fulfilled wherever I have a football around or training or even chatting with colleagues about football. Nonetheless, like everybody else, I was never born a footballer. I was born in a society where academics especially hard stuff like engineering and mathematics were valuable than a hobby. Activities such as art and sports were meant for the poor and low life individuals. Therefore, I had to work hard to make myself useful to my community by attaining good scores at school.
The 2010 world cup was an eye-opener for me. Initially, I dedicated all my time to studying as I believed books were the gate pass to my success in future. Living in China as a child, I had little exposure to sports that would enable me to identify my talent or the skill that am best at apart from books. The glamour surrounding the soccer world cup of 2010 agitated my ambition to try out the sport. Before the world cup, I used to envy children at swimming competitions and rocket ball but I never wanted to be part of such activities. Instinctively, watching the world cup awakened another sense of breaking out and trying the sport. I realized that even sports would be a career. It was never just a hobby that does not pay as I knew before. Thus, I started practicing wherever I had free time though not frequent as I would wish.
Moving to California in the United States in 2015 did not shatter my football dream. I had a drive, enthusiastic about football. Unlike China, here I would gang up with several kids that were passionate about football. There were clubs supporting children playing soccer and I joined one of the city teenagers’ club. Interestingly, the passion I had developed for soccer made me outshine in several mini-tournaments. My coach once told me that I had impeccable leg skills in handling the ball.
Nonetheless, nothing comes on a silver plate as the saying dictates. Therefore, I wake up early in the morning to do my morning runs before school time. In the evening, we have team practice which is a must attend as a team member. Training takes about two hours and takes place in the evening after classes. On Saturdays, we do practice half day. My club also has training which I attend after the school training on Saturdays. Sometimes we have friendly matches with other clubs or schools on weekends.
