Reflection: Parenting Today Name Institution Affiliation Course Professor Date Feelings About Parenting Today Parenting has undergone tremendous change compared to two decades ago. Growing up, our parents were more disciplined and motivated to see us grow to be responsible adults while at the same time making sure we were provided for. As commonly referred, the good old days were defined by emotionally available parents, watching family movies together, shopping at the mall, and reading newspapers and parenting magazines. In comparison, traditional parenting differs from modern parenting, which is fast-paced and technology-driven. Further, Greenwald (2019), in her article 20 Ways Parenting is Different than it was 20 years ago, highlights changes and differences in parenting styles, the influence of digital technology, and the societal expectations placed on parents today. Growing up in the early 2000s, I view modern parenting with a mixture of positive and negative feelings. Differences in Childhood Experiences As a child, I recall playing outdoors with bikes and balls, playing in the park by ourselves, and coming home just before dinner. Our parents were open to allowing us to go outside by ourselves, and they were confident we would return home safely. My parents encouraged outdoor games and put a little on-screen time. Our television had hours we were allowed to watch, and that was after finishing our homework and all the chores allocated.
