Every company I have worked for as a part-time event manager has one characteristic in common: they reward employees for good performance. It is true that event management is one of the trickiest jobs in the world and that a person has to be sharp-minded to succeed in this field. Are there any specific rules to follow or some methods to opt for? For me, event management is not only a field where I can work to earn a living, but also it is a way to fulfill my dreams. Without proper communication, I might never be able to achieve significant success. I am aware of the fact that an event manager has to be presentable and ready to work hard. Sometimes orders are placed with short or tough deadlines, and this is where my abilities to work hard can be judged. There is a lot to learn from the experiences of other event managers in the town.
Some of them are earning a lot of money, while the others have a short of work. Why are not all event managers successful? The answer to this question is that an event manager who ignores the instructions of his clients or is not creative-minded may never get significant success. The job requires me to work hard and talk to the customers on a regular basis. If my customer is a bride or groom, then they may have no time to visit the office and talk in person. Being a problem-solver, I am capable of resolving this issue too. In the beginning, they will be requested to share their private mobile number for easy communication. It’s safe to say that the success of an event manager lies in how open-minded he is.
Event management is not all about decorating the venue but is about how customers are convinced and pleased with the end product. If I choose to work locally, I may never have language problems, but if I want to work abroad and serve international clients, there can be some language barriers. The community of event managers I am a part of has a lot to learn from. It is called Bluefish Club. First of all, all of its members have varying cultures, religions, languages, and backgrounds. For instance, some are from China while the others are from the United States. Every discourse community has its own characteristics and features, so as this community of event managers. They love sharing ideas together, and for this, discussion sessions are held on a regular basis. It is up to me whether I become a part of any of those discussions or not. In case I decide to join them during a conversation session, I am assured that there is a lot to learn from. For instance, I can learn Chinese, Japanese and other languages from them. However, it is not essential for me to speak in their native languages since English is the primary language of communication.
After joining the Bluefish Club -- I have developed great interpersonal and communication skills – the skills that are needed for me to succeed in the future. Prior to that, I did not even know how to speak to others confidently. Mr. Steve Austin is a part of the same discourse community of event managers.
