My famous American is William Henry "Bill" Gates popularly known as Bill Gates. He was born in October 28 1955. He is an American citizen. He is known largely for his work that led to the creation of the Microsoft Company and the personal Computer. The name Microsoft comes from combining part of Microcomputer and Software. Bill Gates is also an author, having written a number of books. He is an investor, where he invests money in other businesses in partnership with Warren Buffet of Berkshire Hathaway. Mr. Gates is a philanthropist. This means he gives money away to charities through his foundation. The foundation is in partnership with his wife and it is called the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. He is also an entrepreneur who invests in other businesses, an aims to make money from them.
The most important act by Bill Gates is the creation of the Windows Operating System. The software program enabled the creation of the personal computer. Before Gates created this software, computers were often machines that could only be used by computer scientists and not everyone. Microsoft, his company, was the first operating system that had a Graphical User Interface. This is the thing that allows you to see what you are doing on a computer. Before this, a computer would only have a black screen and lines of code. Windows system changed this, allowing pictures, videos etc. to appear on the screen. This made it popular and many people bought the computer.
Microsoft launched its first Windows Operating System product in 1985. The company had previously worked with IBM on developing software. However, this partnership deteriorated since they did not have a good relationship. Gates was in charge of Microsoft in partnership with his friend Paul Allen. He also reviewed the code that was written. He created the position of Chief Software Architect for himself. This allowed him to review any software before it was sold. Gates through Microsoft would manage the creation of all Windows programs and related software before retiring. This is from Windows DOS to Windows 8. He also managed the creation of the Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel etc.
