The major issue affecting education across the globe is plagiarism that results from the appropriation of other people’s work without crediting. The cases of plagiarism are categorized as accidental or non-accidental. Whatever the category, plagiarism is a dangerous practice whose consequences include failing in courses, suspension and worst case being a loss of certificate. According to Ashante (2013), the consequences of plagiarism resulted in Chris Spence, a director in Toronto District School Board losing his career when his books, dissertation, and speeches were cited with series of plagiarism. CNN host, Fareed Zakaria was suspended due to plagiarism. It is enough evidence to show that people still engage in plagiarism, despite knowing its consequences.
One of the reasons people engages in plagiarism, despite knowing the danger is laziness and strive to produce an excellent piece of work due to intense competition in most fields. For example, Ashante (2013), takes a case of Jonathan Bailey, whose work was plagiarized by another journalist.
