Schools are integral to the development of a country. Schools are regarded as society’s instruments to free the child from the limitations placed on them by the family. They ensure that the child can evolve to become something better. Moreover, I also believe that schools also act as an extension of the family. It is a reason why parents are crucial during the education process, and that they should interact and communicate with teachers about the progress of their child. Riordan (2004) has raised useful insights that schools act as a way of improving equality. It means that once the child gets to school, they can have the same resources and tools as other students, which would help them achieve their goals. The family is a limiting factor, such as a lack of resources, which can make it harder for the child to get the right opportunities. Schools are expected to serve the greater interest of society as a whole. Mostly, inclusiveness and equality are critical values that make public schools the right choice for students.
Schools are critical, even though an 18-year-old is regarded as having spent 13% of their waking hours in school (Downey & Gibbs, 2010). This means that both school and non-school factors impact the individual. Additionally, the gap between student’s skills tends to increase when they are on holiday or summer. However, learners from low and high socioeconomic backgrounds attain academic skills at the same speed during the school year. It shows the importance of schools in supporting equality (Downey & Gibbs, 2010). Schools act as a way to ensure that everyone in society has an equal chance to have a better life in the future. Something that aligns with my educational philosophy is that it is critical to increasing school exposure rather than making changes with how school days are distributed. If the school days are spread evenly through the school year, then this will deal with disparities that exist in education (Downey & Gibbs, 2010). For example, summer schools can be advantageous for struggling students, and it will improve their performance in class in the long run. Children spend a long time in schools, and focus should be on ensuring that children perform well.
