The public education system is critical in ensuring that countries have individuals with the right skills and abilities so that they are productive. Something interesting about the education system is how it is funded. Since states have the mandate to support public schools within their jurisdiction, there are differences based on funding depending on the state. Additionally, President Kennedy supported the pullback of the federal government in public schools. I admit that a significant issue affecting funding is the differences between states. For instance, Colorado schools have problems with limited funding since the state has a law that sets specific tax revenue limits (Turner et al. 2016). This means the state cannot collect enough money, which can be used to improve the education system. It is interesting to note that even though Colorado is ranked the 14th richest state in the country, its education system is ranked below the poorest, Alabama, and Mississippi (Turner et al. 2016). Since most of the population are not happy regarding increasing taxes, it means that states will lack sufficient funding to support the education process. The education system is essential, and it is vital to finance them without any limitations. The reduced budget cuts that arose after the Trump administration took office was a setback to the education system. However, I agree with the additional federal funds to expand schools. More charter schools will be vital in improving the educational system and ensuring that more students can access high quality education (Prothero, 2018).
The federal government should do more as a means to improve the education system through reforms (The Obama White House, 2010). This is a good option since the federal government can support what state governments are already doing, and this will be crucial to improve American schools. Funding increases can be beneficial to disadvantaged students (Hocker, 2020). They comprise learners who have disabilities, are learning English, and also live below the poverty line.
