The Plan de Ayala and its Relevance to the Mexican Revolution

The Plan de Ayala, also known as Plan of Ayala, was a text prepared by Emiliano Zapata right before the Mexican Revolution. In this particular document, Zapata had blamed President Francisco I. Madero for his wrong acts and the betrayal of revolutionary ideas, which were included in Madero's Plan de San Luis Potosí (Womack, 1968). The Plan de Ayala was proclaimed in November 1911, and amendments in this plan were made in June 1914. John Womack called it the Plan the Zapatistas' Sacred Scripture.
