Workplace bullying and other forms of violence such as harassment are common in different companies and millions of individuals have experienced bullying in the workplace. The issues of bullying and violence are of great interest because of their psychological nature they are difficult to detect and may sometimes be confused with workplace conflict. Most importantly, the lack of legal protections and necessary policies and procedures in organizations have created environments where employees and workers can be easily bullied. According to Einarsen & Nielsen (2015), workplace bullying is a result of long-term exposure to various issues such as social exclusion, hash forms of aggression and would result in long-term outcomes among the exposed individuals. It is, however, critical to comprehend that organizations and government agencies have implemented policies and guidelines that are aimed at helping employers to protect their employees from all forms of bullying and violence while working in the company. Einarsen & Nielsen (2015) have concluded that exposure to workplace bullying facilitates psychological distress among other different mental issues. However, based on the cognitive theory of trauma, individuals who are bullied may easily rebuild the assumptions they have about themselves and the world positively and this would be instrumental in helping them to deal with bullying.
The issue of bullying and violence in the workplace is relevant to my career. Ideally, consistent with the stress theory, there is a wide literature that supports that long-term exposure to workplace bullying may become a major source of work distress which is associated with other numerous subsequent health problems and may also significantly reduce one’s well-being in both short and long-term perspectives.
