To Complete: Submit a 6–10 page paper addressing a water quality issue you were provided from the list of approved topics. To complete this assignment you must find 6–10 recent (less than 5 years old) articles that support the topic of your Midterm Paper. A minimum of six of these articles must reflect primary peer-reviewed research. Beyond the minimum six primary research articles, you may add additional, high-quality secondary literature (reviews or meta-analyses), and you may use websites if from a scholarly and relevant source (e.g., EPA, CDC, NCHS, etc.).
Your Paper must include the following:

Include section headers in APA format for each section below:
• Background of the water quality issue: Describe the water quality issue and highlight its unique attributes and why a public health response would be warranted. This should include a historical review of the water quality concern, as well as a review of the current state of the problem.
• Assessment of Exposure: Describe the potential human health effects and the environmental harm of this water quality issue. Your review should take into account the unique environmental health factors that influence human exposure and what challenges/barriers can you expect to face in addressing this issue.
• Assessment of Public Health Response Impact (locally and globally): Analyze the core public health impact of responding to this problem and how local, state and federal public health agencies may work together in controlling the outcome in the future. Your review should also take into account what other resources and/or partnerships may be needed to respond to this problem to better ensure a sustainable public health response both locally and globally.
• Current Status of Action and Proposed Action: Given your review of this water quality issue, what specific public health actions, laws and/or procedures/practices are currently in place? What else do you feel will best protect the community and why? Water Quality: Lead in Drinking Water.
Lead is a prevalent contaminant of the environment. It is a naturally occurring substance in the form of a metal that is widely spread all over the world. Over the years, lead has been used for various purposes, including being used in gasoline, paint, and plumbing activities. However, after most of the edge got released into the environment, there was a call for its ban especially in plumbing activities, but it was too late since it had started its contamination of water in most of the parts of the world. Lead is harmful to the health of a human being, and how it gets into the body and where it is stored determines the capacity of its potential threat in the body organs. This document serves to address the problem of lead in drinking water as a topic of water quality. The text further discusses its harmful effects on the human body, explain particular control measures that have been taken both locally and globally to prevent its hazards as well as recommend the ways of genuinely responding to the issue for a massive social change.
Background of the water quality issue.
The issue of lead in drinking water is one of the main concerns to public health and should be treated as the main one because it is a toxic and corrosive metal. Secondly, its harm is instant since there is no safe level of lead in the body, owing this to the attribute that the degree of its exposure, its primary concentration, the route of its vulnerability, the current medical condition and the age of an individual are some of the things that determine its hazard in the body (Pieper et al., 2015). Moreover, doctors and public health practitioners have estimated that 20% of the exposure of lead in children is waterborne; for instance, drinking contaminated water. Children and infants are more vulnerable to lead poisoning because their body tissues and organs are still developing, an environment that significantly facilitates lead bioaccumulation.
Lead in water has been there since the investment of plumbing. Its contamination was a common problem to the Romans because in addition to consuming lead through drinking water, royalties and members of the upper class ate their food from plates made of lead and drank wine, which was also being preserved for a long time, from and in vessels made of lead (Pieper et al., 2015). Additionally, a point arrived in many countries all over the world in many ways, including being used in printing and in making arms and ammunition. Once in these countries, the metal was used basically for conveying water, plumbing, and construction. The first lead health-related concern was raised in 1859, but its ban was not effected until its use in plumbing in the 1920s and 1970s when it was announced as one of the main threats in human health.
Assessment of Exposure.
The first method of exposure discussed in this document is inhalation. An individual may inhale lead particle generated by burning materials containing lead, and he or she happens to be standing beside. These and other instances include smelting lead containers, recycling them, stripping lead paint, using gasoline made of lead, using leaded aviation fuel and others. The second most common method of lead exposure is ingestion. This method of disclosure occurs when an individual consumes lead-contaminated dust, drinking water that is being transmitted from one place to another using leaded pipe, eating food from leaded utensils and containers (Davis, 2018). Other minor means of exposure is through the soil for children, but these cases are rarely ranging from 5 to tens of milligrams of lead present in the ground.
