Declaring war on terror has appeared to be universal political sentiment as many nations believe it is impossible to negotiate with terrorists. . These has seen super power nations like Russia, United States and France declaring war against the world know terror group such as Al-Qaida, ISIS , Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram and ASAD. As much as the act of combating terrorism directly is justifiable, still there are some reservation from some human rights groups who perceives that war on terror is the basis of increased human right abuse. However, the UN has found itself in a dilemma as they see terrorism as an act that strikes everything that they incline to stand for. Globally, terrorism is seen as a threat for human rights, the rule of law, human rights, democracy and nation’s stability which necessitates global responses. However, the interventions to combat terrorism has also lead to more killings, humiliations, evacuations and torture on innocent citizens especially the women, children. Consequently, war on terror has negatively led the increased human right abuse globally.
Since the September 11, 2001, the US among its allies resort to war against terrorism with vengeance. Over the years, there has been upward and downward and upward moments along the journey to combat global terrorism (Cubili & A, 2005). This has indicated that war on terror has not been an effective strategy to eliminate the terror groups it has remained a global threat today. On the other hand, the war against terror has appeared to violate the right to life, a principle that all human rights agencies have stood for (Herman, 2015). For example, the US under the Bush administration came up with new security legislation that involved open and covert military operations in the terrorist based countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.
