Preaching is one of the most important aspects of the church. As Christians, one of the reasons that God created us is to know Him and serve him. We should always try as much as we can to understand God through the preachers since they have been given the mandate to lead the people into the light. In Ephesians 4: 4-11, the Bible says that the preachers and teachers are given the mandate to preach to the people and draw them closer to the body of Christ. In 2nd Timothy 4:1-2a, the Bible says, “In the sight of God and Christ Jesus who will certainly judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly charge you: Preach the Word! “ As illustrated in the above verse, the task of preaching is not given to the preachers alone, we as Christians can preach the word of God through our actions and by living a life that is in accordance to the teachings of Christ.
Expository preaching is also important since it helps the Christians to avoid misinterpreting the word of God. Preachers possess a special gift from God and therefore, they should try as much as they can to interpret the meaning of the text found in the Bible to avoid confusion among the Christians. It is also through preaching that God can manifest Himself to us. As Christians, we are able to learn the mysterious power of God through the Bible.
In his book, The Glory of Preaching, Darrell W. Johnson highlights that preaching is also an act of salvation. God brings salvation to the world through the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
