Background
U.S involvement in Syria to support the position groups focuses on interest in the region including economic, political and geostrategic reasons. Russia is a key ally of the country and this limits America’s influence and jeopardizes her economic interests.
Investment
There are investments in the oil industry, which have been disrupted before the war broke out.
The US also seeks to assert influence to limit Russia and Iran’s actions, especially on oil exploration and energy cooperation.
There are competing gas pipeline interests in the region.
Economic sanctions to influence changes
Both political and economic interests are viable options to influence change in Syria, and whereas these sanctions have created an economic vacuum, America’s adversaries have strengthened their position.
The economic interest of the US in the Middle East was more likely to be protected by a friendlier regime in Syria.

The U.S involvement in War on Syria has mostly focused on the geostrategic, political and military reason. However, there are economic reasons for the U.S to get involved and limit the dominance of Syria in Syria and her ally Iran. US involvement in Syria is constrained by reluctance of the Syrian regime to accept American initiatives of pace, and the country being allied with Russia and China. If ISIS/ the Islamic state capture oil fields in Northern Iraq and Syria this could jeopardize American economic interests in the region (Masi, 2014)
