The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) is an autonomous, quasijudicial government body that has various investigative roles on matters of business. The body is empowered to examine the consequences of dumped and financed imports on home industries and carries out international protection inquiries. The agency also deliberates on any form of disputes arising from imports that in any way infringe on intellectual property rights. Through such forums, the agency is able to stimulate the global trading system. The USITC differs with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in that while USITC is mostly concerned about the welfare of American businesses while the WTO ensures that there are fair trade practices internationally (United States Trade Commission, 2011).
