UChicago offers the students a place where they can achieve their goals and dreams in education and in every other area of their lives. I would like to point out that students coming to the university are assured of an enabling environment that is free from segregation and malice from either the students or the administration. This is contrary to what Cameron Okeke tries to insinuate about the institution.
This is an institution of higher learning meaning that it offers the students the chance to expand their skills and perspectives in the educational and research realms as well as on the social, economic and political elements. The fact that the university does not offer safe spaces and trigger warnings does not mean that we are not committed to diversity. This is cannot be further from the truth. The university nurtures a culture that is open to the dynamics of the society and as such welcomes the students to an open minded approach to life.
Having an environment that offers the student a wide variety of views is crucial to their broad approach to life. Safe spaces only encourage the students to hide from the discussions that allow everyone else to be heard. These are spaces that inhibit the true nature of higher learning.
