A presidential debate has become a norm to precede an election in the United States, although it is not a constitutional mandate. The most recent between president Donald Trump and the former vice president Joe Biden, moderated by Chris Wallace with Fox News, took place in Cleveland, Ohio (C-SPAN, 2020). Judging from the behavior of the presidential candidates, it is hard to grasp what was the theme of the debate, but through the guidance of the moderator, it is possible to deduce the topics. The debate was meant to deliberate on matters relating to the supreme court issues, race, election malpractices, the coronavirus pandemic, and the economy.
The host organized the discussion as per the topics, and each section had direct questions to the aspirants, followed by an open discourse between them. It is somehow difficult to deduce the performance of any of the contestants in a debate that one might argue was disorderly and unprecedented. Every candidate was full of praise for oneself and strongly condemned their counterparts. It seems both had done their homework and dug deeper into the opponents' weak points that kept resurfacing in the as the debate went on. However, it is pretty easy to note that Biden tried to maintain his calm even though the behavior Trump could not permit such kind of maturity.
President Donald Trump seemed to have transferred his vocal habit of social media to the debate. He barely permitted his opponents to answer the questions asked with his persistent interruptions. At some point, you would think President Trump was debating with Chris Wallace, the moderator, and at some point, the president admitted doing precisely that.
