Introduction
TB is a serious infectious disease that is caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) (WHO, 2017]. The disease mostly affects the lungs and it is spread from one person to another through the air. In this sense, when an individual with the diseases sneezes, coughs, spits, TB germs are propelled into the air. As informed by the World Health Organization (WHO) [2017], TB is among the top ten death causes in the world. While some people develop the disease a few weeks after they become infected, others become sick years later, after their immune system weakens due to some other reason (CDC, 2016). As seen, TB is a serious condition that requires proper management to prevent its spread. As a home health agency employee with TB, Jeanie poses a risk of infecting other employees. In this regards, there is a need for an education program to help in creating awareness about the condition in order to help employees handle the situation better. This paper proposes an employee TB education program aimed at preventing and controlling the disease.
Employee TB Education Program
According to the CDC (n.d.), it is important that TB control programs provide appropriate training and education for all staff members during the period of employment. This will enable the members of staff acquire accurate knowledge about TB and other related aspects. Therefore, the education program for the employees will aim to equip them with up-to-date and relevant information about TB. The education program will also include information on DOTS strategy, which is the basis for the global control plan (Orcau, Caylà, & Martínez, 2011). All other employees will receive education about TB that is relevant to their occupation in the organization.
Elements of the program
Some relevant sources of information are used to outline the elements of education program meant to create awareness among employees about TB. One of the sources is the TB control program as adopted by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Workforce. Also, the World Economic Forum provides the key principles that ought to govern the TB program at the workplace (World Economic Forum, n.d.). Further information that guides the program is adopted from the TB program by the Insurance Company of North America. The following are the elements of the program:
* The program will recognize that TB is a workplace issue that affects workers and the organization by reducing productivity and increasing costs (World Economic Forum, n.d.). As such, the support of the organization for the education program is critical to its success.
* The program will seek to create awareness and educate employees on relevant aspects surrounding TB. The creation and adoption of positive awareness about the condition will be integral in reducing the related stigma (World Economic Forum, n.d.).
* The program will cover the basic concepts of TB transmission, pathogenesis, and diagnosis. In this case, the employees will be informed about the signs and symptoms, reinfection possibilities among other significant aspects....
