Both “The Tempest “and “Winter’s Tale” are tied with a similar conception, which is being illustrated by the characters. The utilization of time and place in both plays brings a great sequence. The themes in both plays carry the weight of the concerns the writer intended to address in his writing. Examining the attitudes of characters in the plays, such as Prospero in the Tempest, brings out the theme of reconciliation and true forgiveness. The heart of the drama carries both similarities and differences, which requires extensive debate in making an effective analysis. This paper aims at discussing the similarities in William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” and “Winter’s Tale,” and the differences illustrated in the two plays.
The sequence of place and time, where the two plays are set, is one of the major similarities. Shakespeare creates unity in both plays to explore his intended concerns. The idea of reconciliation is being highlighted in both plays. The unity of time and place as the major elements. Both plays reflect society as a whole. Another similarity in both plays is where Prospero in “The Tempest” throws a miscue to the betrothal of his daughter where they end up having reconciliation with a happy ending. In the “Winter’s Tale”, there is a happy ending illustrated with reconciliation where the father is reunited with his “lost” daughter also sculptor is seen creating Hermione’s statue which is relatable to Ganymede’s uncle since they both influence magic objectives in the artwork (Shakespeare, 2005).
