My paper reflects what we learned in units about media. As identified in the course, it is necessary for one to understand the learning outcome which states that one should understand the values and meanings that are expressed in literary contexts or pictures and the impact that they can have on the person who is reading or viewing the picture. The task is based on an advert that is run by Soak Cigarette Company. In my task, I am going to focus on how the company has formulated their advert to portray tobacco to be harmless to the health of an individual. Through the text, I will learn the different ways through which pictures can give a certain messages to the people. The message that is given to the people may affect the lives of the people.
I chose the Skoal picture advert as an illustration of how various companies use pictures to advertise their products and how such images can ruin the life of the young people. The advert that I chose has various images that appear to promote the smoking of tobacco instead of discouraging the smoking of tobacco among young people. The intended audience of the advert is people who smoke tobacco, but it also targets the young people. The task will inform the young people on the effects of tobacco and that they should not take advertisements that they see to be something that is real. They are formulated in such a way that they seduce the young people to smoke tobacco.

Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing this letter to your company in regard to the advert on the usage of tobacco referred to as new Skoal citrus blend. In my letter, I have identified the several aspects in the picture advert that I consider to be promoting chewing of tobacco among young people. Each of the aspects that I found used wrongly in the picture advert has been discussed in detail in the letter. I urge you to take into consideration these aspects as the advert promotes tobacco usage among young people which is contrary to the ethics and morals of our society.
To begin with, you need to reconsider the usage of the teens in the advert when advertising your product. Firstly, I noticed the young males in the picture that are jumping off a boat and having fun. In my view, the reason why the advert consists of young men is that the young people are victims of peer influence. When others view the advert and see how the other young men are having fun they will interpret the usage of Skoal to be a source of relaxation and fun. Therefore, this will encourage other young men to try using Skoal to achieve the fun feeling as those in the advert. The next time they go on vacation they will try to use Skoal to have the same feeling as the young men in the advert. I find this very inappropriate given that we have a society that is very dependent on the future of this young generation.
