But someone still was yelling out and stumbling And floundering like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace Behind the wagon that we flung him in,

The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori.
The poem “Dulce et Decorum Est” holds many themes which revolve around war violence, and human suffering. The author imbued his poem with the devastating reality of war and how it is horrendous and evil in the face of reality. The full phrase, revealed at the end of the poem is dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, which can be loosely translated, “it is sweet and fitting to die for one’s country.” The author wants to reveal how this is a big lie and how inglorious war truly is....
