The wonderful novel, the lightning thief by Rick Riordan introduces a story of a young boy Percy Jackson during the summer season. After completing his grade six, he discovers that he is different from other people. He learned that he was not a normal person that is; he was half blood person and half god and thus was rushed to a camp in the New York where kids of his kind are safe from monsters who like to attack half blood persons (Roessler, 2010).
In the camp, Percy Jackson learns more of himself. He comes to know that his father is the father Poseidon, the god of the sea and also meets Zeus and Hades. When Zeus lost his bolt, Poseidon is claimed to be the thief. Poseidon is told by his brother Zeus that bolt has to be returned to Mount Olympus by summer solstice or war shall be declared upon him. Poseidon is not pleased by his brother’s accusation (Riordan, 2010).
Percy is send to find Zeus master bolt which is believed to be held captive in the underworld specifically Hades. With him, Percy is joined by other two friends who travel to the underground across America, from New York City to Los Angeles. In their trip, the three encounter Greek monsters, the likes of Medusa and have several fights. At the gate of the arch, they meet god of war (Ares) who fights Percy almost to death and nearly to lose his memory.
After Percy arrives at the underworld, he comes to find out the Zeus bolt was not with Hades and his helm of darkness, a symbol of power is missing too. Percy is accused by Hades of stealing the master bolt and helm of darkness altogether. Nevertheless, he accused Poseidon of being greedy of power. Instantly the missing master bolt is seen with Percy while in dialogue with Hades. Percy escapes his brother’s anger, Hades and on the beach encounters Ares and questioning him he finds out that he stole the two missing items from the original thieve. In their battle at the beach, Ares is wounded by Percy thus Percy wins the helm of darkness and later returns it to Hades. Afterwards he risks to fly back home by plane to give the helm of darkness to Kronos. In the underworld he also learns that his mother is alive.
Percy becomes as a hero in the camp of half blood and is unable to make decision to whether to return home and continue living with his mom or continue to enjoy his new life in the lovely new home, the camp forever. On his final day in the camp, Luke cheats Percy that he is the original thief of the missing bolt and helm of darkness. Further, he cheats sole them from Kronos who plans to attack and defeat the Olympians. Afterwards Luke runs away leaving commands a deadly scorpion to stings Percy. Its poison leaves him almost dead. Wood Nymphs take Percy and keep him under care of teacher Chiron who cares for him until he regains his health. Later Percy makes a decision to move home to live with his mother for ...
