“Nobody” by Marc Lamont Hill
The book “Nobody” by Marc L Hill looks at the reasons some of the American citizens have routinely been on the receiving end of the unending state negligence or violence. The book examines how the citizens, mainly the African Americans, blacks, poor, or even brown, have continued to exist outside of America’s prosperity in conjunction with all of the supposed freedoms (Hill, 2017). It humanizes the African Americans while also attempting to show the reasons as to why their conditions are mainly as a result of social policies and entrenched economic policies, which have become common and also greatly exploitative.
As suggested by the title "Nobody," Hill, a distinguished professor, ground his vulnerable life narrative in the way of the black's experience compared to the brown Americans' experience. The bodies of the blacks bear the brunt as a result of state violence. In each chapter of the book, Hill focuses on specific state violence, including Michael Brown’s killing, broken windows policing fatalities, plea bargains normalizing, extrajudicial violence state sanctions, complex industrial person and Michigan’s lack of clean water to drink. However, Hill fails to be more comprehensive in these topics.
"Nobody" can be considered among the latest books in this genre by an African American professor and a political commentator. However, the book has been seen to be different from its peers.
