The Tempest: A Rock and Roll Space Odyssey
Over the years after the first release, The Tempest did not gain much attention due to the ban of plays during the early times. It only gained its desired respect after the Restoration, and in its now adapted versions. After being revived by a multitude of critics and scholars, the original Shakespearean text is now what is being used in most plays. Eventually, after struggles from those ages when the performances of plays were banned, it is now considered as one of Shakespeare’s greatest works (Royal Shakespeare Company, n.d.).
In this paper, I opted to choose the adaptation of The Living Waters Christian Academy/Wise Fool Players Production’s The Tempest: A Rock and Roll Space Odyssey. A review on its theatrical structure, theatrical mood and tone, and the whole performance of the cast was evaluated and assessed in connection with the original play.
Theatrical Structure
Personally, I think the staging was good because it provided enough space for the actors to freely move. There were times, however, when they bumped into each other, but judging by the stage itself, I think it allotted enough space for actors to move freely and dynamically.
The lighting was also rightfully organized. The ability of the actors to convey the message of the play was strengthened because of proper lighting. Moreover, since it has the “space” theme, the dark portions of the stage gave emphasis on the setting.
The costumes used were applicable to the theme. There was a mixture of modernity and classic touch, which emphasized the theme of the play while preserving its classic sense.
