A TED talk by Simon Sinek caught the attention of scholars and business people alike as he sought to explain how great leaders inspire action of the substance. In his speech, he sought to explain why some phenomena succeeded despite the odds being stacked against them, like Apple Corporation, Martin Luther King's relation to the civil rights movement and the success of the Wright Brothers as aviation pioneers. Sinek (2010) insisted that within the mentioned successful parties, there was something else at play rather than just selling ideas and products to the population and industry leaders. Research and subsequent findings support that there indeed is a pattern. This is embodied by Steve Jobs and the success of the Apple franchise despite stiff competition from competent rivals. Thus, Simon sought to explain how some are able to achieve heights that defy common assumptions.
One of the main points elaborated by Simon is that the goal of any venture should not only be selling to people who need what one has but to sell to people who share the underlying beliefs. Similarly, he posits that the goal is not just to hire people who need jobs, but also to hire people who share company ideals and beliefs, thus people who can work diligently to ensure success is attained (Sinek, 2010). Recent rises and falls of businesses indeed indicate that for a venture to succeed it needs passion on top of financial pursuit.
