Essay Instructions:

This week, we'll be sharing drafts of your Persuasive Writing and Counterargument Case Study in a class peer review. In order to make this process run smoothly, please be sure to follow the instructions noted below.
In your initial posting, explain the current state of your draft, your plans to add content, and your revision plans. If you have specific questions for the peers who will review your assignment or want to provide them with any additional information, please do so in your initial post.
Attach your current draft to your initial post; ideally, your rough draft. This must be completed no later than Tuesday night. No matter how rough your rough draft is, submit what you have by Tuesday night. The reason this is so important is that if you don't submit your draft on time, your fellow students can't complete their task of providing you feedback on time either.
Find the two peers who have posted after you in terms of time. Read their attached drafts and any notes they left to accompany the draft.
Download the Week 6 Peer Review Checklist/Worksheet (Links to an external site.). Complete the form separately for each of the two peers whose drafts you will be reviewing.
Using the Peer Review Worksheet, provide thoughtful feedback to each of your peers separately. This must be completed no later than Friday night so that students can incorporate your feedback into their finished presentations.
Continue to check into your group discussion area in the event your peers pose any follow-up questions.
Over the next several weeks, you will be developing an analysis of a case study of your choice. The first step is to analyze a debatable claim. You will select a scholarly article from a reliable source that relays a strong position on a debatable topic. Be sure to record the full APA data, including title, author, and publication information.
Remember, although you are investigating an opinionated piece, your selected article should still come for a reputable publishing source and be well-researched.
In a four- to five-page analysis, address the following in a well-developed and structured essay.
Provide a clear and detailed introduction.
What is the topic and why is it important?
What are the multiple sides of the debate?
What is your thesis or point of view on the topic?
Summarize the topic/angle/purpose.
What is the topic of the article?
What is the angle or argument that the writer presents?
What is the purpose of the article? What does the writer want the audience to do with the information they are presented with?
Analyze rhetorical appeals.
How does the author use appeals to reason (logos)?
How does the author use appeals to emotion (pathos)?
How does the author use appeals to credibility (ethos)?
What appeals are used most effectively? What is the impact on the argument?
Provide a counterargument.
What are the opposing arguments to the argument?
What are some reasons why the argument is incomplete or illogical?
What are some examples or forms of evidence that show why or how the counterargument is incomplete or illogical?
What are the reasons why the original argument is stronger?
Explain your position.
What is your evaluation of the issue?
How does utilizing a counterargument make your analysis stronger?
Remember, you must include detailed examples and analysis to help support your claims. Select your topic wisely and be sure to address each part of the prompt as this assignment will be used for your Week 7 Persuasive Presentation.

Stress has been quite a serious issue, especially for senior members of the society. Most veterans are battling post-traumatic stress and have a high chance of committing suicide if they are not checked. According to TED TALK, "over 115 veterans kill themselves, and 5440 dies on the action, meaning for every 21 that die in action 1 commit suicide”(Smith,2020). The government may argue that they have implemented some measures for the veterans when they come home, but are these measures working? Are they even followed up? Are they enough to stop these suicides? The answer to all these questions is no; they are not working anymore; they are not enough to prevent the suicides, and no, they are not followed up. The US government should do more than they are claiming to do for these men that served for their country.
The government should start by looking at their recruitment methods into the armed forces because this is where this problem begins. When someone joins the armed forces, they go through the entire required test expect the most crucial one. By analysis as the whole, I mean the medical exam, the drug test, and finally, the vocational test to measure your skills but not the mental test to evaluate your psychic abilities to deal with the things you are going to experience. From the studies research, it is clear that if you come from a family that has suffered from mental issues, you are at high chances of inheriting the disease or getting PTSD (American Psychological Association, 2013). If also you sustained traumatic stress as a child, you might even have a high probability of suffering from PTSD. Then if there is all this information outside here, why is the government not taking action? It is clear that if kind of information, PTSD can be prevented, reducing the number of suicides.
The government also doesn't follow up on the measures they put in. For example, when a veteran goes for leave, they are supposed to get a one-hour mandatory in-person interview to evaluate the mental status of the veteran. Most of this psychological evaluation is done on the phone, and it does not even last 10 -15 minutes. How then are helping these veterans if they can’t even spare an hour to save their mental health? Is it wrong to blame these suicides on the government because they are not playing their part? (Smith, 2020). Follow-ups should be implemented to ensure t...
